Module Five
Please click on the link below and read the following exerpt from: LTTC Diploma in TESOL Module Three - testing As with all forms of teaching whether classroom based or online you will need to check learning effectiveness. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways Most teachers are continually checking throughout a lesson both on the effectiveness of their own teaching strategies and the degree to which the learners are absorbing and able to use the target items. This is ,of course, informal , with the teacher observer the linguistic behaviour of their learners and finding ways to modify this as proves necessary. The learners themselves provide constant feedback to the teacher through their reactions and indeed linguistic performance It is customary nowadays for teachers to actively seek feedback from their learners in a more formal manner. This can range from verbal interaction to filling in feedback sheets setting out how they view th performance of the teacher and their own personal progress.
There is also a place for the more formalised testing of students and we have provided a link above which sets this out in detail. Many students will expect to be tested at regular intervals but this will depend on their own backgrounds, past experience and to some extent nationality. Students who are preparing for examinations such as the Cambridge board FCE/CAE/CPE will require testing as part of their program to ensure they are fully able to cope with the specific form of these examinations .
Other students might wish to prepare for spoken examinations and again a particular form of testing here would be purposeful.
There is much debate about whether learning is enhanced through the actual process of being tested.
The main things , perhaps to remember, is that we should not test something which has not yet been taught.
